Ukhrul's tryst with SBI, ATM starts

The long cherished dreams of the people of Ukhrul for more banks and facilities of Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) finally came true today with the official commissioning of the State Bank of India (SBI) Ukhrul branch, here today.
During the inauguration function Major General CA Krishnan, IG AR (S) graced the function as the chief guest while Chief Manager of State Bank of India, local head office, Guwahati and General Manager, State Bank of India local head office, DC Ukhrul N Ashok Kumar and Brigadier Narendra were the president and guests of honour respectively.
Assistant General Manager RK Borkotoky and Branch Manager Tiken Singh spoke on the development of the new branch which is located inside the 10 sector B'Range Somsai.
Chief General Manager Garg in his short speech said that the opening of SBI is a red-letter day for the people of Ukhrul adding that the advantage of new technology in the area will give the same facilities available in the metropolitan's cities of India.
Moreover, he added that though the branch is 4 kms away from Ukhrul town it is an ideal location in terms of security and convenience.
And with the establishment of such a bank it will take a leading role in establishing other branches and business correspondence including SBI loan system in uniformity with other SBI branches in other places.
The DC while addressing the gathering said that it is a good omen that the new facilities were opened on the same day as the Lui-Ngai-Ni festival.
He added that by March 31 many more branches will spring-up.
The IGAR (S) said that the day is a special day for Ukhrul as it is a symbol of peace coupled with a growing economy and only peace
can ensure this.
Amongst others, the programme was attended by the representatives of TNL, TKS, social workers and many prominent social workers including the Retd Chief Justice, Wungzan Shishak (Jharkhand) and many students.
