Troops of Assam Rifles today rescued the non-local trader kidnapped by activists of United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) allegedly on Rs 10 lakh demand after a brief exchange of fire at Aibijang village under Saikhul police station of Senapati police station, official reports said.
Reports said that troops of 23 Assam Rifles rescued the non-local trader allegedly kidnapped by the activists of UKLF allegedly for ransom from his shop dealing with cement at New Checkon, Imphal on July 10 last.
The rescued trader identified as Umesh Prasad of Regu village of Setamadi district in Bihar presently residing at RIMS road, Imphal has been handed over to the Imphal east police.
Troops of Assam Rifles conducted the rescue operations today at about 7.30 am.
Before rescue, his wife had reportedly handed over Rs 2 lakhs to the outfit maintain ceasefire with the government forces under Suspension of Operation Agreement out of Rs 10 lakh demanded.
Police has also taken statement of the rescued trader who has been handed over to them today by the AR authority.
