National Monitoring team shocked over PMGSY works in interior Tamenglong

The National level monitoring team along with the State level monitoring team had visited the most interior part of Tousem sub- division of Tamenglong District to inspect the developmental schemes being taken up there on May 8 .
The National level monitoring team comprises Dr..PSharma and Dr.Gayatri, who have been deputed by the Ministry of Rural Development to oversee the developmental work and welfare schemes being implemented under various departments.
Led by Armstrong Pame, IAS SDO/SDM of Tousem, they travelled to over seven villages of Tousem Sub-Division.
The seven villages covered by the Monitoring Team include Azuram, Namtiram, Taningzam, Phoklong, Teuguaram, Tousem Khullen and Tousem Khunou.

The Monitoring team also had exclusive round of talks with the villagers on various developmental schemes being taken up by the Government, especially the MGNREGS.
Apart from visiting the worksite and interacting with the job cards holders, the Joint monitoring team of the National level and the State level also inspected all the documents including the sanction register, work register, employee register, etc.
The team also took the opinion of the job card holders on various matters like regularities in payment of wages, amount received and expectations from MGNREGS.
The villagers were happy to learn about the increasing rate of wages in MGNREGS.
It can be noted that daily wages under MGNREG has been raised from Rs 144 to Rs 150 this financial year.
The National level Monitoring team assured the villagers that as long as they carried out their work dutifully and maintain both quality and quantity they would continue to get 100 man days in the financial year.
With regard to implementation of old age pension scheme, Dr.Gayatri personally verified the old age pensioners in the villages particularly in Tousem Khullen village and found out that more than 15 aged women who are over 65 years, have not yet been covered under the scheme.
Accordingly, she assured that the matter would be taken up with the officials concerned.
On the implementation of schemes like PMGSY, the National level monitoring team inspected two road sections, one from Azuram to Chingkao village and the other from Taningzam to Impa village.
The team expressed dissatisfaction over the quality of the work.
The team was also shocked to find that not even a single drain was seen constructed whereas under PMGSY construction of drainage is compulsory.
The villagers also conveyed their dissatisfaction over some of the works undertaken by the State departments like PHED as well as under PMGSY to the visiting monitoring team.
