Imphal, September 12:
The Health Director has assured daily ration of TB patients of TB Hospital Chingmeirong and JN Hospital very soon.
Following complaints that the Superintendents of TB Hospital Chingmeirong and JN Hospital have halted provision of ration from September 10 and 11 respectively, a meeting was held today with the Principal Secretary (Health).
In accordance to a decision of the meeting, due instructions were given to provide daily ration within a day or two.
Earlier, Yumsha Protein Foods, supplied daily ration to the TB patients from April 28, 2006 till April 30 this year under an agreement with the Health Directorate.
After the lapse of the contract period, the Yumsha Protein Foods supplied for four extra months on humanitarian ground before the ration supply was halted since September 1. According to information received from Yumsha Protein Foods, the Health Directorate was duly intimated before the lapse of the contract period to float a new tender for the ration supply.
Even as the Directorate failed to issue necessary order for food supply, the Yumsha Protein Foods supplied ration for four extra months at their own cost.
On August 20 this year, officials of the Health Ministry and Yumsha Foods talked on the non-issuance of necessary order for further supply of ration.
Even then, no official order/intimation was made to the Yumsha Foods for continuous supply of ration.
Subsequently, ration supply for the patients of TB Hospital Chingmeirong and JN Hospital was suspended on September 1.
