Imphal, November 08 2011:
The State Government represented by Chief Minister O Ibobi and the Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) talked for about two hours on the demand for upgrading Jiribam to a full fledged district but no meeting point could be reached during the course of the talk and the status quo remains.
Nevertheless, another round of dialogue would be held tomorrow afternoon.
The negotiation with JDDC leaders was also participated by Revenue Minister Th Debendra, IFC Minister N Biren, Labour Minister Ph Parijat, Agriculture Minister N Loken and Chief Secretary DS Poonia.
It was also attended by representatives of AMUCO, AMKIL, NIPCO, HERICOUN, CLK and IPSA.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, JDDC convenor M Maipaksana said that the Chief Minister insisted on initiating the process of creating Jiribam district after the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.
As the JDDC stuck to their stand of upgrading Jiribam into a full fledged district before the elections, the dialogue ended in a deadlock.
The JDDC would hold another round of dialogue with the Government tomorrow afternoon after consulting civil society organisations and members of the committee, Maipaksana said.
However, there is no change in the JDDC's decision to launch total bandh from November 10.The JDDC may go further even to the extent of boycotting the forthcoming elections, he said.
He further asserted that Government is never serious about upgrading Jiribam into a full fledged district though it claimed otherwise.
No areas of Tamenglong or Churachandpur would be affected while creating Jiribam district and the State Cabinet has already adopted a resolution in this regard.
For Jiribam, there is no need of the district boundary re-organisation exercise, he asserted.
