The Manipur Nursing Council (MNC) on Monday conducted its first ever examination for the various nursing institutes in the State for the General Nursing Midwifery/Family Health Worker (GNM/FHW) .
Manipur had been conducting the nursing examinations under the Assam Nursing Council (ANC) until July last year.
Manipur for the first time set its own questions for the examination this year.
This is the first nursing examination in Manipur under the MNC following the approval of the Council in the State by the Government, informed Kh.
Bimola, Superintendent of the Council while addressing a press conference.
Asserting that this would help save the expenditure of the people by not going outside the State for the exam thus helping in the economy of the state too, Kh Bimola maintained that this can also give a boost to Nursing education in the State.
In this connection, the Superintendent of the MNC appealed to all the institutes in the State to follow the rules and regulations laid down by the Indian Nursing Council and warned that whoever violates them would be responsible for the consequences.
On the other hand, recalling the time when the nursing institutes in the State had to conduct the examinations under the Assam Nursing Council, Kh.
Bimola conveyed that there were lots of inconveniences such as with examination centres, question papers, form filling and the likes by the students and the teachers then.
The Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery/Family Health Workers (ANM/FHW) started its examinations under the Assam Nursing Council from 1963 with the GNM having started in 1970.Kh.
Bimola, Superintendent (Nursing) and Registrar of the MNC also informed that there were 19 nursing institutions in the state including the one from state government.
She further informed that there are 1334 nursing students in the 19 institutions including 765 (seven hundred sixty five) students in GNM and 569 (five hundred sixty nine) students in the ANM/FHW.
