Underlining the importance of print and electronic media in disseminating correct information to the people, a 15-day long basic course on news reporting has begun from today.
In all 30 trainees, both boys and girls are participating in the course which is being organised by the State Institute of Journalism, Directorate of Information and Public Relations.
The inaugural function of the training course held at Manipur Press Club here was attended by Commissioner of IPR P Bharat Singh as chief guest and Director of IPR T Sitlhou as president.
Media personality Seram Mangi, Deputy Director of AIR Imphal BB Sharma, former Editor of ISTV K Madhumangol, senior Public Relations Officer of Manipur University, M Saratchandra, SP of Imphal East Th Radheshyam, Editor of Ereibak Irengbam Arun, Editor of Kangla Pao P Ibochouba, Editor of Huiyen Lanpao, English edition, Brozendra Ningomba, special correspondent of Telegraph Khelen Thokchom and Editor of Huiyen Lanpao Manipuri edition Ratan Luwangcha were among the subject experts who were also present at the occasion.
In his address as chief guest of the inaugural function, Commissioner P Bharat observed that print as well as electronic media have a great role to play in the development of any society.
In recognition of this fact, the State Institute of Journalism has been organising similar news reporting courses for the last couple of years, thereby benefiting many trainees.
He further observed that there is no end to education and learning process.
So all should continue to strive for more and more knowledge, he exhorted.
During the course of the training, there would be both practical and theory classes, he explained.
In his presidential address, Director of IPR T Sitlhou expressed hope that the trainees would be able to gain new knowledge about news reporting through their interaction with the subject experts.
He also urged the trainees to extend active participation.
