Imphal, July 31 2014:
The state unit of JD-U on Wednesday demanded immediate release of all the students and women, who were arrested by police during the protest over Inner Line Permit (ILP) issue, without any conditions.
The Government should honour all the women and students who are now in jail, state JD-U president M Tombi said during a press meet at party office here.
He added that Manipur is experiencing population increase, but the territory is limited.
The JD-U leader said the genuine peace movement demanding introduction of ILP for checking inflow of outside population into Manipur largely aims to preserve the tradition and culture of the indigenous people, apart from bringing welfare for the citizens of the state.
Tombi said everybody in the state wants implementation of ILP under Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulations, 1873 .
Attacking president of the state BJP unit, the state JD-U president said his party condemns Th Chaoba's suggestion that meeting of all political parties should not be held over the ILP issue.
Tombi said his party will support meeting of all political parties for discussion on implementation of ILP system.
