In a move to address the racial discrimination in the mainland India, the Manipur Students' Association, Pune (MSAP) has submitted a four-point charter of demands to the Chief Minister of Manipur yesterday.
Addressing the media persons in this regard here today, MSAP said both the state and central governments should immediately take steps with other mainland state governments to end the racial discrimination and also take serious actions against racial labelling or profiling against people of Northeast origin.
The second point is that considering the multi-racial composition of India, Manipur state government should initiate to include the history and unique cultures of the North East communities in the school level curriculum of other mainland states and in the Central Board (education) .
The third point has been that keeping the current law and order situation and exodus of the North Easterners from major cities of India during August in 2012 in mind, the Manipur government should initiate to set up student hostels as well as the hostels for working women professionals at Pune and in other major cities.
Finally, the MSAP demanded to strengthen the security measures, protect and promote the safety and personal security of students and working professionals, the Manipur government should initiate some concrete steps to set up Manipur Bhavan cum transit hostel at Pune and in selected major cities of mainland India to be headed by senior officials from Manipur.
