Manipur state Minorities Commission (MSMC) honoured Miss Nasrin Begum, who stood first position in PG Maths examination 2010 in Manipur University and won Thoidingjam Damayenti Devi Memorial Gold Medal for the year 2010 at a simple gathering held at 11 am today in the office chamber of the chairperson of the Commission at Secretariat here.
The Commission presented Miss Nasrin Begum with books and other gift hampers which may contributed to her further studies.
ADM, Imphal East MA Salam, MCS was also present at the function and presented the gift hampers to the gold medalist.
Secretary of MSMC, M R Sheikh said in a press release that Miss Nasrin Begum, daughter of Maulana Ziauddin, Pesh Imam of Sadar bazar Jame Masjid, Imphal, and Sanayai Bibi, a resident of Oinam Sawombung, Imphal West, is the first among the minority Muslim girls who can achieve the topmost position in the MU examination in PG Maths.
She has also become the first among the daughters of the Mauluvis in Manipur.
M R Sheikh further said that the MSMC has been constantly inspiring Muslim girls pursuing higher education since the last five/six years.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of the Commission, A Halim Chawdhury, IAS (Retd), expressed immense pleasure and deep gratitude to Miss Nasrin for achieving the gold as the Commission whishes.
