Imphal, July 07 2014:
Thadou Students Association-General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ) has called off its proposed 72 hours bandh slated to begin from midnight of July 7 to press the demand for termination of the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 7th IRB from his service.
The decision to call off the bandh was made following an agreement reached between the state government and the Thadou students' leaders this afternoon.
The government side led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Clay Khongsai and the leaders of TSA-GHQ met at the former's office here from 3 pm.
As per the agreement, the government will bear the medical expenses incurred in the treatment of the six persons injured in the June 16 accident.
It was also agreed upon that the government will replace the damaged car with a new one, according to James Haokip of the TSA-GHQ.
On July 2, TSA-GHQ announced that if the state government fails to terminate Chaba Lukho, the Commanding Officer (C.O) of the 7th IRB from his post by July 6 then it will impose state wide 72 hours bandh from the midnight of July 6 .
The TSA-GHQ is in agitating mode following the alleged indifferent and callous attitude of Chaba Lukho to the accident victims incurred by his convoy on June 16 between Koirengei and Khonghampat in north Imphal under Sekmai police station.
The TSA-GHQ leaders alleged that on the fateful day, the convoy of the 7th IRB led by C.O Chaba Lukho hit the Alto car bearing registration number ML-05F-2825 and sped away without bothering to halt and see what had happened though he had the full knowledge of the accident.
In the accident six occupants of the car including a 3 years old boy was hurt.
They were rushed to Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) in Imphal but due to the nurses agitation the victims got treated at a KCC hospital at Dewlahlane in Imphal.
According to the TSA-GHQ, an FIR was lodged at the Sekmai police station and on June 19 the Investigating Officer of the Sekmai police station summoned both the parties, but the C.O.Chaba Lukho or anyone from the 7th IRB came.
On June 28, a bandh was called but to no avail.
Irked by the attitude of Chaba Lukho the TSA-GHQ submitted a memorandum to Manipur home minister Gaikhangam demanding that the IRB officer be terminated from his post by July 6 or else 72 hours bandh will be imposed in the state.
