Imphal, April 20 2009:
Campaign period to the Inner Manipur Parliamentary elections which would go on April 22 as 2nd phase to the current general elections to 15th Lok Sabha Election, 2009 concluded 4 pm today.
Till the last minutes, political parties conducted election rallies across the three valley districts, Imphal East, Imphal West and Bishnupur and three Assembly segments of the Thoubal district included in Inner Lok Sabha seat.
Seven candidates are in the fray in the elections to the no.2 inner constituency of the Lok Sabha.
Manipur has two seats to the Lok Sabha and the election to the Outer Manipur Parliamentary (ST Reserved seat) has held on April 16 last with high turn out of
voters.
Former Union minister Th Chaoba of Manipur People's Party (MPP), sitting MP Th Meinya (Congress), former chief minister W Nipamacha (BJP), former minister M Nara (CPI), L Khetrani (RBCP), independent candidates A Rahman (Ex IGP) and N Homendro are contesting the elections.
A total of 8,26,539 voters across 32 Assembly Constituencies are to exercise their franchise at 970 polling stations.
