Imphal, October 16:
The Thoubal District Development and Demand Council has expressed that central and the state governments have not looked into the problems facing the people or the region for a long time.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister O Ibobi, the Council has stated that Thoubal is the second largest district in the state having two sub divisions with six assembly segments.
The backwardness of the district in the health, market, sports, transport, government machinery offices, etc, have affected the normal life of the people.
The construction of the 100-bedded hospital, regional diagnostic centre and the market complex, which was enlisted in the work programme of the centrally sponsored NE projects, is yet to actualize.
Owing to lack of modern equipment in the health care sector despite the increasing population in the district, the state has not focused to develop the infrastructure in the already old-modeled district and rural hospitals and community health centre, the Council pointed out.
The Council has urged the Chief Minister to modernize the health facility in the district by constructing a 100 to 500 bedded hospital including a regional diagnostic centre, which may become hospital of national standard or a medical institute along with the opening of the Indo-Myanmar Trade.
With the role of women taking a major part in the state's economy and the youths haying keen interest and talent in games and sports, the Council has also demanded for a market and sports complex and at the two sub divisions of the district.
The Council has asked the Chief Minister to turn the Inter-village roads from Wabagai to Tentha, Hayelabuk, Khangabok, Atkhokpam, Thoubal, Sabaltongba, Kiyam and Waithou, wholly known as Kavo Lambi, into the state highways and to construct the same.
