Imphal, March 05 2013:
Invoking provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (PCA) Act 1960, People for Animal (PFA) Thoubal and the police stopped a Maharashtra family from displaying three genetically deformed domestic animalstwo cows and a sheepto conduct public worship and let the faithfuls offer money to them in Imphal.
Admitting to their crime against animals and with the promise not to commit such act in future, the family left Manipur for their native State today.
"We found one cow having 6 limbs and another five limbs and a sheep with 4 horns being tied in a vehicle specially designed as a temple fixed with various Hindu deities' pictures.
Many people offered money and flowers to the animals at Mantripukhri yesterday evening," said L Biswajeet Meitei, the PFA's managing trustee.
Sindoor were applied on the genitals of the cows which can be quite irritating for them and since the family moves around the country with the deformed animals only to earn money the physical and mental health of the poor animals could have been severely affected, he said.

Having found that the family members violated section 11(1)e,b,d,h,k of the PCA Act, the police was immediately informed and latter stopped the activities.
The family members, who hail from Maharastra's Solapur district, said they earn their living by displaying their deformed domestic animals at various villages of the country as people, who were made to believe that they were sacred and possessed miracle power, offered fruits and money, he added.
Comprising an old mother, two sons along with their wives and their two small siblings, the family were convinced about the PCA Act and they agreed that they have committed a severe crime against the poor animals and befooled the innocent people.
Feeling pity for the small siblings, the rescue team let them free under certain conditions that they should not continue such activities in future and that the animals should be dearly reared at home.
As the family members informed the rescue team that they would leave Manipur for their native place on Tuesday, they were asked to inform about their return journey till they reach home.
