In all, four candidates have filed nomination papers for the by-election to the Yaiskul Assembly Constituency with two more individuals entering the fray before the Returning Officer on the final day today.
Those who have filed nomination papers for the by-election include Indian National Congress nominee Elangbam Suraj, Soubam Rajendrakumar of the janata Dal (Secular) and Independent candidates Hanjabam Jaydeva alias Gandhi and Aribam Jagdish.
Suraj is the son of demised Congress legislator of the Assembly Constituency E Kunjakishore, S Rajendrakumar, the former Editor of Tongna daily and jaydeva alias Gandhi presently a Councillor of Imphal Municipal Council's Ward number 19 .
Scrutiny of the nominees will be held on December 3 while December 5 has been fixed as the deadline for withdrawal of nomination paper.
The by-poll is slated for December 19 .
apart from the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and MPCC president Gaikhangam and various SPF Ministers and Congress MLAs accompanied E Suraj during the filing of nomination papers.
With the end of filing of nomination papers today, the polling process has also been set into motion and the candidates have begun poll campaigning.
The by-poll has been necessitated by the demise the then sitting MLA, E Kunjakishore of the Congress.
Police training programme : The two day specialised training programme on enforcement of drug laws especially conducted for top police officials concluded today.
In all 36 police officials from all the districts, who were nominated by the DGP (manipur) participated at the training programme during which Regional Director of Narcotics Control Bureau, Vijoy Shahasane and Zonal Director of NCB (Guwahati) BK Ghose, delivered lectures.
