Thirty-five different kinds of bamboo including to rare species which are not found in other part of the globe are growing in Manipur, a recent survey on bamboo of the state forest department revealed.
The report of the survey conducted by a team if scientists from the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun led by HB Naitha on the bamboo available in the state was released Wednesday at a function held at the head office of the state forest department at Sanjenthong.
The releasing function was graced by principal secretary, state forest and environment, ANS, AN Jah, principal chief conservator of forest SS Shingjit as president and director of FIR, Derahdun, AS Nagi as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, SS Shingjit said that the state has plenty of bamboo resource and with the resource, many people are earning livelihood.
The survey on bamboo growing in the state was conducted by the scientists of the FIR under the National Bamboo Mission.
As per the finding of the report, 35 different species of bamboo are growing in the state.
Among them, two species are not available in other part of the globe.
The two species are named as Bamboosa Manipurian and Dedrokelash Manipuria.
The survey report will give immense benefits to the students conducting research in the field of bamboo, he said lauding the effort of the scientists of FIR.
On the occasion Dr HB Naida spoke on the benefits of the bamboo to the human being with power point presentation on the accounts and variety of bamboo available in the state.
