Imphal, April 21 2012:
For the welfare of the journalists in Manipur, Apollo Gleneagles Cancer Hospital, Kolkata, which is one of the front runners in providing cancer treatment in the country, has come up with the idea of providing 50 percent subsidy in treatment of cancer.
This was announced by Dr Tanmoy Mukhopadhyay, Senior Consultant, Clinical Oncologist, Apollo Gleneagles Hospital during a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today.
He informed that the decision was made taking into consideration of the selfless services being rendered by media persons of the state in sensitizing the public on various issues.
Apart from giving 50 percent subsidy on treatment for cancer to media persons of the state, the Hospital will also provide equal assistance to their family members, Dr Mukhopadhyaya assured.
He further informed that Apollo Gleneagles Cancer Hospital, Kolkata, has got a very strong tumour board and all the difficult cases are discussed among the specialist in the tumour board and the best treatment option is adopted for the patients.
Some of the cancers require one or more modalities like radiation, chemotherapy and surgery.
The modern day radiation therapy and radio surgery are done in the hospital with very high precision using technology like Novalis Tx and hence there are lesser chances of healthy tissues getting affected even if high doses of radiation are given to patients, he added.
Dr Mukhopadhyaya explained that the most common cancer prevalent in the state of Manipur is lungs and breast cancer.
These are caused mainly due to excessive use of alcohol, smoke and tobacco.
So, we need to put a stop to all these in order to avoid attracting cancer.
The Appollo Hospital has certain unique features which include state of the art technology with two Linear Accelerators, Novalis Tx with BrainLab and Clinac iX; complete range of diagnostics required for cancer treatment including Dual Hard SPECTY Gamma Camera; dedicated Bone Marrow Transplant Unit; Paediatric Cancer Unit and Women's Cancer Unit, he added.
