Manipur state council of the Humanist Party of India (HPI) has urged the Union Home Ministry to send a committee at the ministerial level or a cabinet team to the state to take stock of the situation against the backdrop of the Khwairamband incident.
Talking to reporters at Kalyan Bhawan, Kwakeithel here, general secretary of HPI, Y.Biren said the Humanist Party has also demanded a white paper from the Government of India on the works taken up for Manipur so far by the Government of India and to start political dialogue on the problems faced by the state in order to solve the problems.
According to Y Biren, his party had met the Joint Secretary (NE) of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Naveen Verma on September 22 at his office chamber and also submitted a memorandum to him.
He said the demands were incorporated in the memo.
The memo has also asked whether the last Viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten had given assent on the signing of Instrument of Accession by the then Maharaja of Manipur on August
11, 1947 .
When media persons asked the general secretary, HPI about the reaction of the joint secretary, Y.Biren said that the joint secretary Naveen Verma had replied that demands similar to those in the memorandum were put up by armed outfits operating in Manipur.
It may be mentioned here that Y.Biren made it very clear that Naveen Verma only mentioned the name "Meghen" without any prefix or suffix.
