Tamenglong Orange growers encouraged to work harder

In a move to increase the production of Orange in Tamenglong district, a two-day training programme was organised by Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur at Hotel Imphal here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the portfolio of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, called upon the trainees not to think the programme lightly but to give maximum endeavour to make Manipur an orange state.
He said Orange of Tamenglong district is famous and urged the cultivators of the citrus fruit to work hard to help in improving the economy of Manipur.
J.C.Ramthanga, Principal Secretary in charge of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, said maximum number of Orange is produced by Tamenglong district in Manipur.
He said if the cultivators continue with the same zeal to produce the fruit definitely the economy of the state will be greatly leaped.
He then said the famous Orange Festival is organised to encourage the cultivators to work harder and to further explore the avenues in this regard.
Tamenglong MLA Janghemlung Panmei, Hill Area Committee (HAC) vice chairman Z Kikhonbou Newmai, Tamenglong ADC chairman Humaliabou and Dr RC Upadhaya, chief consultant, MITH, Government of India also took part in the inaugural programme.
