Officials of the state agriculture department led by additional director Phalendro today inspected various schemes taken up by the department in Thoubal district under the guidance of the deputy director (soil chemist), Ph Rajendro.
Assistant professor, department of soil science, Dr A Herojit and associate professor, Entomology department, Dr Kh Ibohal of Central Agricultural University, CAU, Iroishemba also accompanied the officials of the department and impart awareness to the farmers on the latest method of application of fertilizers, soil conservation and choosing of appropriate pesticides and insecticides in the fields.
As part of the visit, the official inspected works taken up for preparing green manure by an NGO at Thoubal Tentha by planting chuchuramei for enhancing nitrogen contents of the soil.
The department is taking up planting of chuchuramei at the field extending over 30 acres at Tentha area of Thoubal district.
The official also visited composite farming practicing at the MAIDO farm located at Tentha.
Professors demonstrated on how to prepare compose manure from the waste materials to the farmers there.
At an awareness programme on soil health management conducted at Elangkhangpokpi, Dr Ibohal give awareness to the farmers on integrated pest management which focused on the use of less toxicant pesticides and insecticide and proper use of it.
Dr Herojit talked on the method of application of fertilizers as per requirement with the soil available in the field.
He also talked on the impact of excessive use of fertilizers to the environment and health of the people.
