The 12 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQs IGAR (S) constructed a concrete road of 400 metres on SordeKasong road near Khongle bridge in Phungyar sub-division in a record period of just two months, said a PRO IGAR (S) release.
Informing that the construction is the first concrete road in the Ukhrul, the PRO highlighted that concrete roads have advantages over bituminous ones for the former are durable for 40 years or more compared the 10 year life of bituminous ones.
Further maintaining that construction of concrete roads in the interior location will go a long way in ensuring overall development of the interior villages, the release also said the concrete road has attracted a lot of enthusiasm of the local populace and various social organisations who have taken this as a positive step to ensure development in the hill districts.
The road has been handed over to the District Administration on April 26 after the social audit of the quality of construction work was completed by the designated social organisation (Volunteers of Village Development) based in Ukhrul, it added.
