Speaker shows obeisance to martyrs

On the occasion of Kongjom Day which is to be observed on April 23, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Lokeshwar Singh has paid his obeisance to the departed souls of the martyrs who made supreme sacrifices for the sake of their motherland.
In a message to the people, Lokeshwar observed that the Khongjom War which was fought between the Manipuris and the mighty British on 1891 was one of the most remarkable historical events in the history of humankind.
Despite knowing that they would suffer defeat, forefathers of Manipuri people did not even hesitate from sacrificing their lives on the battlefield for the sake of protecting the independence of their motherland.
For this act of selfless sacrifice, the present generation should be proud of their departed forefathers.
The sacrifices made by like Paona Brajabashi, Chinglensana and other brave Manipuri soldiers on the battle of Khongjom should never been forgotten and we should follow their footsteps for ushering in peace and development in Manipur, he exhorted.
