Imphal, February 05 2010:
Several important Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) sittings have been allegedly pending at the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) due to the regular absence of Chairman Rakesh, IAS.
Sources alleged that the Chairman, Rakesh has been frequently absent in his office, and lives in Delhi, where his house is situated, most of the
times.
As a result of his irregular attendance in office, lot of works have been pending, the sources said.
It is worth mentioning here that Chairman of MPSC, Rakesh was two times Chief Secretary of Government of Manipur.
He was given the post of Chairman of MPSC in September last year.
While contacting officials of MPSC, they defended Chairman Rakesh saying that he is a dedicated officer with honesty and integrity.
He never wants to keep any work pending.
The only trouble for him is that the present SPF government has not yet given him official accommodation.
Because of this, he is unable to attend office regularly, the officials said.
Though he has repeatedly urged the Chief Minister, O Ibobi to provide him an official quarter, the government is yet to do the needful.
Since his family lives in Delhi, he also goes to Delhi and stays there for long period.
However, when he comes to Imphal and attends office, he takes up the pending works, the officials said.
But they admitted that there are some works pending.
It is hoped that the government would provide accommodation to the IAS officer by March next.
At the same time, there had been plenty of complaints from different quarters against the Chairman's absence in office for long period.
Many important DPCs have remained unexecuted for a long time resulting in loss of a lot of money of the state exchequer, sources said.
If he is not going to be able to attend office regularly, it would be better to appoint another person who can work full time at the MPSC, the sources observed.
