Family members and colleagues of the five abducted Manipur Public Health Education Department (PHED) officials today pledged to stage indefinite joint sit-in-protest at PHED office complex beginning today until the abducted officials of the State engineering department is safely liberated from the captivity of the kidnappers.
With the completion of 4 days in the kidnapping drama of the PHED officials in which two assistant engineers, two section officers and a driver was abducted on November 27 by cadres of Kangleipak Communist Party-Military Council (KCP-MC) while on their way to Senapati district to inaugurate water supply scheme under NLCPR, the protesters have demanded that the government should negotiate and bring the abducted officials back to freedom from the kidnappers.
A memorandum to this regard has also been submitted to the chief minister for prompt action, said a protestor.
The abducted PHED officials have been identified as H Ganeshwor of Pishum Oinam Leikai, K Rameshwor of Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai, K Mangigopal of Uripok, N Somikumar of Yaiskul Chingakham Leikai and A Ibomcha of Samorou.
In a stark contrast to the PHED kidnapping case a prompt and decisive intervention by the army today has managed to salvage a truck driver from the clutches of the kidnappers after having been in captivity for 3 hours.
The hijacked truck was recovered at Taphou Kuki village on National Highway 39 by Senapati police.
Unknown miscreants have attempted to kidnap the driver at around 9:10 am today who was on army duty ferrying daily ration for the army.
The truck bearing registration number NL 01G-4433 was coming from Dimapur on National Highway 39 headed to Leimakhong army headquarters to deliver army ration when unidentified miscreants struck with the kidnap.
The truck driver, who has been identified as Rajkumar Gurung of Nagaland came to the spot where the truck was recovered at around 12:20 pm to reclaim the abandoned truck before the police took procession of it, said a police source.
