A two-day seminar on women in peace volunteering which is being organised by Kasturba Gandhi Institute for Development, Manipur and Gandhi Samiti & Darshan Samiti, New Delhi has begun from today at Manipur State Museum.
Inaugurating the seminar as chief guest, MLA of Thangmeiband A/C Radhabinod Koijam observed that organising such a seminar is relevant.
He said that many courageous women have born in Manipur like the brave Imas of the two Nupilans who fought for peace and integrity and Irom Chanu Sharmila, who is fighting for justice in the society.
The MLA further said that every one should support and encourage Sharmila who has been on a fast unto death demanding repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1985 .
Expressing concern over rising incident of harassing woman in Manipur over the last few years, the MLA called upon the people to join hands for stopping and fighting against crimes and violence against women.
While acknowledging contribution of women in the society, the MLA, nonetheless, pointed out that some of them have created negative image by indulging in notorious activities.
Presided over by president of Kasturba Gandhi Institute of Development Kh Momon Singh, the inaugural function was also attended by president of Senior Citizen, Manipur N Binoy Singh as guest of honour.
