AMSU Lamangthong branch today observed 20th anniversary of the protection of rights of the students with a function held at the Moirang Multipurpose School.
On the occasion, students remembered three students of the Moirang Multipurpose School, Moirang who died in police firing during a protest rally of the students of the school demanding improvement of the infrastructures of the school on this day in 1979 .
Rich tributes were also offered to the photographs of the three students, Kumabam Sharat, Urikhinbam Khelenchand and Haobijam Ibohal killed in the police firing by the students gathering there.
The programme collided with the concluding function of the two day youth leadership camp held at the school.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, publicity secretary AMSU, L Ranendro alleged that state police personnel are committing atrocities to the civilians in the name of countering with the insurgents.
Police commandos are bending their neck to the undergrounds he alleged citing that the clear example was that of chasing for the student leaders to arrest even though an underground outfit owned up the killing of professor, Md Islamuddin.
Both killing of the professor as well as chasing after the students' leader by the police are strongly condemn by the AMSU, he said announcing that the body is getting ready to carried out sit-in protest and causing damage to the government vehicles, stitching black batches in series till the demand for unconditional release of the students leader arrested by police is fulfilled.
The function was presided by president of the Lamhangthong district committee, S Premchand and president of Apunba Nupi Lup, Bishnupur district, L Nganbi, CADA Bishnupur district president N Bimola, coordinator, RK Ashalata and father of the late Kumabam Sharat K Ibohal attended as guest of honours.
