Imphal, November 27 2010:
A state level children day under the theme "Responding to Children's Voice" was held today by the Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO) under its CHAHA, a child-centered care and support programme with the objective of uplifting the status of the children living with HIV/AIDS at Nupilal Memorial Complex.
CHAHA is the only large-scale national care and support programme for children affected by HIV/AIDS in India implemented in four high prevalence states.
Programme implementing authority claimed that they are taking care of 4,200 children in the state by providing various facilities including their study.
In the key note address of the function given by coordinator of programme Basanta said that CHAHA is a project for taking care of children living with HIV/AIDS and to bring up them upto the level of common children.
In the state, the project was launched in 2007 for the first and it is implementing with the finds released from the Global Fund Round-VI.
It is currently implementing in six districts of Imphal east, Imphal west, Thoubal, Chandel, Bishnupur and Ukhrul.
Manipur is among the four states of the country implementing the project.
The other states are Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
Under the project 4,200 children living with HIV/AIDS are taking care.
They are providing special care, he claimed.
