The International Manipuri Conference of the Manipur Sahitya Parishad as part of its platinum jubilee was held no participant from outside the country at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound.
Manipuris residing in other countries who were about to participate in the conference could be entered the state as they were not given Protected Area Permit, a mandatory permission to be given by the Centre to the foreigners who wanted to visit Manipur.
However, Manipuris from other states of the country like Assam, Tripura etc.
participated in the conference which the inaugural function was graced by former minister, Dr M Nara.
MANITRON chairman MLA Dr Kh Ratankumar presided the function in which prof N Tombi attended as guest of honour.
Addressing as chief guest of the function, Dr Nara said that today's conference being the first, there is a planned to hold the conference triennially.
The venue will also be changed at other places like Silcher in Assam or any other places so that participants from other countries can also take part in it.
In his speech as president of the function, Dr Kh Ratankumar asserted the role taken part by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad in the development of Manipuri literature but expressed dissatisfied when the parishad could not get monetary assistances from the government side.
Taking part in the discussion session of the conference Manipuris coming from outside the state highlighted status of the Manipuris their respective states and said that many problems are faced in protecting their identities, culture, traditions and literatures.
