Imphal, August 22 2010:
The burning down of two vehicles by gun wielding miscreants at Tupul on National Highway 53 on 19 August has been strongly condemned by Transporters' and Drivers' Council (TDC) and has blamed that promises by the central government and the state government to fully deploy central paramilitary forces for the protection of national highways has been not fully implemented.
They have asked for deployment of more security personnel on the national highway 53 .
In a press release General Secretary, TDC, Ng Haridas has charged that the refusal of the Depot Manager of I O C to send oil tankers and LPG bullet trucks on National highway 53 will plunge the state into a fuel scarcity again as transportation on national highway 39 has been affected by landslides.
The press release mentioned that if oil tankers were allowed to join the convoy that had travelled on NH 53 with security on August 12, loaded oil tankers would also have returned to Imphal on August 18.The TDC has asked the Depot Manager, IOC, for the reason for not allowing oil tankers to ply on NH 53 to transport fuel.
The press release also informed that on August 20, 182 vehicles including a few LPG bullet tankers and oil tankers left Imphal for Jiribam on NH 53 and all the vehicles reached Jiribam in the same day.
They stated that on August 23 around 200 vehicles, including 40 rice loaded trucks will be departing Jiribam for Imphal.
