Imphal, April 15 2009:
The Zeliangrong people living in Delhi have clarified that they have not taken any stand to support any candidate in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
In a press release e-mailed to this newspaper, President of Zeliangrong Welfare Association, Delhi (ZWAD), Benjamin Pamei and its General Secretary, Poujenlung Gonmei stated that in the light of the general confusions prevailing now in Manipur and Nagaland due to the press statement issued by some private individuals which appeared in two English dalies published in Imphal Dimapur yesterday using the name of the Zeliangrong Naga community living in Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) endorsing a particular candidate for the upcoming Parliamentary election in Outer-Manipur constituency, the ZWAD is compelled to make the following statement for general information.
That, the press stated, the ZWAD which is the apex body of the Zeliangrongs in Delhi and NCR and the Zeliangrong Students' Union, Delhi (ZSUD) have not taken any official resolution to support any candidate in the upcoming election.
It further stated that the ZWAD or the ZSUD have not officially sent any representative/team from Delhi to canvass for any candidate.
Therefore, any press statement made or political canvassing done in the name of the Zeliangrong Nagas living Delhi for a particular candidate is highly deplorable and has no sanction of the ZWAD, the press release asserted.
The ZWAD appealed for a free and fair election so that the universal franchise, democratic rights and freedom of the people are safeguarded, and wished all the candidates good luck and expressed eagerness to look forward to their leadership.
