Akademi award to L Birendrakumar Sharma

Imphal, February 15 2011:
"Train-na Pakistan Tamna", a Manipuri translated version of the novel "Train to Pakistan" by L Birendrakumar Sharma has been selected for Sahitya Akademi Translation award, 2010.The New Delhi based akademi informed the selection of the novel to the writer.
Birendra is working as president of the Panthoibi Natya Mandir, Imphal.
His translated version of the Khuswant Singh's "Train to Pakistan" was published in 2008 .
Born in 1948 at Yumnam Leikai, Birendra retired as district and session judge in 2008.He has translated "Doctor Faustus," by Christopher Marlowe and Shakespeare's sonnets.
He also translated the Rajasthani novel by Shanti Bharatdwaj's "Ur Jare Sua (Bondagi Nanthokhraba Chekla)" and Takshi Shivshanker Pillai's "Chemin (Inungshoi-gi Ngaching), ready for publications by Sahitya Akademi, Kolkata.
He gas also translated Manipuri novels into English, his translation of Dr Ibohal's "Bungabandhu-gi Leibak-ta" into English as "In the Land of Bungabandhu" is ready for publication.
He is now translating "Mainu Pemcha" into English.
