ASHA workers threaten stir

Highlighting disparity in honorarium, opportunities and facilities enjoyed by ASHA workers in Manipur and in other Indian states, All Manipur Accredited Social Health Activists Workers' Union has demanded suitable wages; line of promotion; sufficient uniforms and united fund of Rs 1000 for each ASHA area/ revenue.
In connection with their demands, the Union has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh for his timely intervention on Saturday, and the same has been forwarded to concerned Minister of Health & PW/GAD/CADA today for necessary action, Ak Thoibi Devi, President of the Union informed in a release.
Stating that ASHA workers are sincerely working for ensuring successful implementation of National Rural Health Mission and in the interest of women before and after birth of child, the memorandum demanded 100% reservation for qualified and experienced ASHA workers at the time of appointment as Supervisors/ASHA facilitators as line of promotion; minimum wages to coverage the service benefit and provide united fund amount of Rs 10,000 to each ASHA per annum.
The Union also warned of launching various forms of agitations if the concerned authority failed to comply with these demands.
