Even though IFCD Minister N Biren informed the Manipur Assembly that the right main canal of Thoubal Project has begun irrigating up to seven kilometres along its downstream, the farmers of the area are yet to get the benefit, Pradhan of Changamdabi GP, Karamuddin said.
During a tour of the right main canal of Thoubal Multipurpose project this morning by a team of the Andro Kendra Development Committee members and media persons, farmers of the area were seen having a discussion with the IFCD officials.
Karamuddin, who accompanied the team of media persons and the ADC members, said that the left main canal of the project has been irrigating water up to 24 kilometres along the downstream since ten years back.
He said that the right main canal of the project is yet to irrigate the fields as the construction of a two-metre broad and a metre and half depth canal at Leirongthel Laiching Ching and Khongsai Chingkhong is due.
He said that due to the drought-like situation this year, fields in Nongmaithem and Kamu areas remain uncultivable.
In Changamdabi area, 500 hectares of cultivable land begun cultivation with two water pumps provided by the circle MLA, Shyamkumar.
Karauddin said the urgent need of the farmers of the areas is water for cultivation while appealing the concerned minister and department to irrigate the parched fields.
