Imphal, December 01, 2012:
President of Tousem Village Authority B R Leikoulung has lamented over deprivation of even the basic facilities and other benefits under various centrally sponsored welfare programmes to the people of Tousem Sub-division in Tamenglong district.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Leikoulung informed that the condition of the present Government PHC at Tousem, which was established in 1977, is pathetic; it does not have ambulance of its own and enough staffs.
Most of the staffs are from far off places.
So, they could not stay back for a long in the area.
In addition, poor transportation system in the area has compounded the difficulty of the people.
Today, the building of the PHC is in shambles and it's simply not fit for human occupancy.
If concerned authority renovates the building especially quarters, then the staffs could be encouraged to stay back at their place of posting, Leikoulung suggested.
Highlighting other major civic problems being faced by the people in the sub-division, Leikoulung pointed out that PHED may have laid water pipelines in some areas but there is no water reservoir with treatment facility.
So, the water is supplied directly from natural reservoirs without any purification process.
Moreover, none of the programme under total sanitation campaign has been every implemented in Tousem sub-division, Leikoulung informed, while urging the state government and its related authorities for taking up necessary remedial measures in the interest of the people.
