Three officials and the driver of a private company engaged in construction of a NTPC power plant in Assam who were kidnapped by suspected ULFA militants were released today but there was no information about the whereabout of another official abducted along with them.
Police said three officials of the Kolkata-based Pradip Constructions Private Limited, working under Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited for construction of the NTPC plant at Salakati near lower Assam&aposs Bongaigaon township, and their driver were released by their captors near here on National Highway 31 in the early hours.
Police said four officials of the company and their driver were whisked away by a group of suspected ULFA ultras in their vehicle when they were on way to the plant site at Salakati yesterday.
The abductors released the three officials and the driver but kept another officer hostage and took him to an unknown destination.
Demand for ransom was the cause of the abduction, police said.
