Under the First Eye Sight Project, a joint initiative of the National Blindness Control Programme and Lions' Club free cataract operations are to be conducted on the patients who have been identified during the course of the serial camps on 'Eye screening test and correction of refractive error organised by Imphal West District Blindness Control Society in collaboration with Lions' Club, Imphal City, Opthalmic Division of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and Imphal Eye Care Centre, Lamphel.
The schedule for conducting free cataract operation for the patients who have been identified by the doctors in the eye screening test conducted at various places by Imphal West District Blindness Control Society in association with Opthalmic Division is February next.
But the operation for patients who have been identified during the cataract screening test conducted by the Society in collaboration with Lions' Club, Imphal City and Imphal Eye Care Centre, Lamphel would be conducted on January 28 .
Talking to mediapersons in this connection here today, programme manager of Imphal West District Blindness Control Society Dr RK Lakhsana pointed out that a patient can lost his/her eye sight permanently if refractive error is not detected in time and consulted the doctors concerned for necessary treatment.
So the eye screening test camps are being organised under the National Blindness Control Programme to prevent blindness.
Secretary of Lions' Club, Imphal Y Shantikumar said that the benefits of the First Eye Sight Project have already been extended to many people and it would continue to do so in the future as well.
Meanwhile, Imphal West District Blindness Control Society; Lion' Club, Imphal City and Imphal Eye Care Centre, Lamphel jointly conducted a camp on eye screening test and correction of refractive error at Khumbong today.
