Imphal, February 23, 2010:
A draft electoral for the Autonomous District Council elections will be published on March 2. This was decided during an official meeting held today in the conference hall of Old Secretariat.
The meeting presided by the Principal Secretary in charge of Tribal Development was also attended by Deputy Commissioners concerned.
The DCs were also appointed District Election Officers for the five District Councils, excluding Sadar Hills.
The ADC Kangpokpi was appointed District Election Officer of Sadar Hills District Council.
It is most likely that the District Council elections to be conducted after a gap of around 20 years would be held in two phases in view of the prevailing law and order situation of the State.
In the event of holding the elections in two phases, district councils of Churachandpur, Ukhrul and Tamenglong may be clubbed together in one phase.
This would put Chandel, Senapati and Sadar Hills together in the other phase.
After publication of the draft electoral roll on March 2, 15 days time would be given to make complains about errors and omissions before the final electoral roll is published on March 27. There would be 1023 polling stations in the six District Councils.
Each District Council has 26 seats, out of which 24 would be elected while the remaining two would be nominated.
