Impact of AFSPA discussed

Along with facilitating a discussion session on the impact of Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the society, Zeliangrong Students' union Khoupum Area(ZSUKA) and United NGO ' Mission Manipur (UNMM) jointly observed International Human Rights Day at Daithaolong in Khoupum valley under Nungba sub-division of Tamenglong district on December 10 .
During the observance which was attended by leaders from 22 villages of Khoupum Valley areas, Achui Kamei, chairman of Khoupum Area Village Authority Council, chaired the session with Boipu Koireng, Co-ordinator of UNMM and Majabung Gangmei as resource persons.
Speaking on the topic of "Violation of human rights and Arms Forces Special Power Act", Majabung Gangmei explained in detail about AFSPA 1958 and its impact on the civil populace of the state.
He also highlighted the list of Do's and Don'ts under the Act issued by the Supreme Court of India which personnel of Armed Forces have never adhered to.
Boipu Koireng, who spoke on the topic of "Prevailing Social issues and violation of human rights in the state, particularly Tamenglong District", made the gathering aware of the larger Human Rights such as Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Fundamental Rights, International Humanitarian Law as well as the rights of women and children.
He also touched upon prevailing social issues like excessive military occupancies, conflict between Security forces and non-state actor, factional armed conflict, increasing violence against women & children, trafficking, failure of Education, health, electricity, worse condition of road, propose construction of dams and exploration of dam, rampant corrupt practices in service delivery systems, etc.
At the end of the session, the congregation adopted a declaration unanimously.
The declaration included demand for repealing AFSPA, stopping increasing Violence Against Women and Children immediately, stopping harassment, torture, detain, other punishment of civilian by both state and non-state actors immediately, to compensate victims of illegally torture, harassment, etc.
by any actors as per law of the land, expediting the pending cases related to Human Rights Violation as per law of the land, etc.
