Imphal, June 09 2009:
Residents today set deadline on June 20 to the state government to take up repairing works of the stretch of the Imphal-Yairipok road from Irilbung Thongkhong Keirao Bitra to Yairipok Maring which around one and half kilometer long.
If government authority failed to take up the repairing works within the set deadline, the Imphal-Yairipok road would be closed down, warned the people of the area who staged protest by closing half of the road today.
Authority, with a view to repair the road having plenty of potholes piled up stone cheap on the side of the road since the last around one year.
But stating that the repairing works has been handed over to another contractor, the earlier contractor started taking out the piling stone cheap.
Decrying the move of the contractor, the residents of the area today scattered the stone cheap on the road.
According to one resident who took part in scattering the stone on the road said that due to non-repairing of the road for a long time, they are facing great difficulties on traveling the road.
The residents univocally said that if the government authority fail to take up repairing work within the next few days till June 20, they will closed the road from all kind of traffic.
