14 deer horns seized

Imphal, May 07 2011:
Fourteen deer horns, found being carried in a Maruti van by two women, were seized by troops of 31 Assam Rifles at its check post at Khudengthabi along the Imphal-Moreh section of NH 39 today.
Kapaine (29) daughter of retired Subedar Sainee and Asha Empfuthmai (35) daughter of Fakhoto, both hailing from Maipethu village of Tadubi, Senapati district, who were travelling in a Maruti Van (MN01W-1840) from Imphal towards Moreh, were intercepted by the troops who apprehended the deer horns from them today around 1 pm.
The seized items have been burnt and destroyed in the presence of Customs officials and community leaders and the two women have been handed over to the Customs officials, a statement of the IGAR (S) said.
Meanwhile, a cache of arms and ammunition were seized by troops of 23 Assam Rifles in a counter insurgency operation in Lamlai area today.
The seized items included one carbine with magazine, one 9 mm pistol with magazine, five 9mm live rounds, 26 AK live rounds, one AK magazine and six electronic detonators, the statement of the IGAR said.
