Imphal, August 06 2009:
Some unknown persons fired a shot at the office of evening newspaper Paojel situated at Sega Road near Top Leirak around 7 pm today.
The bullet struck and pierced through the glass door of the office but fortunately no one was injured.
It cannot be said exactly who fired the shot, but an Apachi team of police commandos was present in the area about that time, sources said.
A team of concerned journa-lists led by President of AMWJU, S Hemanta met the Chief Minister around 9 pm and informed him about the incident.
MLA Bijoy Koijam helped the journalists in meeting with the Chief Minister.
The journalists told the CM that the incident happened during curfew hours.
A commando team of Apachi was present in the area about the time.
Therefore, the journalists demanded an inquiry be ordered into the incident and the report be made available to the journalists.
The journalists also demanded that security personnel be deployed permanently at the Sega Road where most of the newspaper offices are located as the journalists are facing threat from both insurgents and security forces.
The journalists also demanded from the CM to issue necessary orders to the security personnel not to create obstructions while the newspersons are moving about for duty during the curfew hours.
The CM instructed the Imphal west Senior SP Kailun to enquire into the firing incident imme-diately and also not to give any obstruction to the newspersons.
