A three day national conference on the "Frontiers of Colloids, Surfaces and Nanostructured System, FCSNS) organized by the department of Chemistry, Manipur University, Chanchipur in collaboration with the North East Chapter of the Indian Society for Surface Science and Technology (ISSST) kicked off here with an inaugural function held Senate Hall of the University today.
The Vice-Chancellor, prof C Amuba attended as chief guest, head of chemistry department of the university, prof N Rajamohon as president, president of the ISSST prof SP Moulik, its member S Aditya and working president of the North East Chapter ISSST, prof K Ismail as guest of honours.
The rapid proliferation of the research and development in soft and nanostructured system targeted towards designing newer materials with desired properties calls for intermitted reviews on the recent advancements on the frontiers of colloids, surfaces and nanostructured systems with special focus on the trends in the field, a leaflet of the conference stated.
In the conference which MU organized for the first time, 41 scientists from outside the state are participating.
Speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the conference, Vice Chancellor, prof C Amuba said that the participation of scientists from outside the state in the conference is a matter of encouragement.
He also urged the scientists and students to extract the benefits of the conference taking advantage of the topics discussed in it.
Speaking in connection with the organization of the conference, prof N Homendro said the holding of such a conference is the beginning of the department of chemistry, MU stepping toward the field.
It has also become the first step for the scientists community of the region, he added.
