A journalist from Tamil Nadu was allowed to meet Irom Chanu Sharmila at the security ward of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat yesterday following an order from Manipur High Court.
Talking to media persons at the office of Human Rights Law Network, Tamil journalist Prabhagaran Mani said that he was not allowed to meet Sharmila at first when he went to the security ward of JNIMS.

However, the said application was turned down by the Magistrate.
Thereafter, he filed a writ petition (WP (C) No.843 of 2013) in Manipur High Court seeking permission for meeting Sharmila at the security ward of JNIMS.
Fortunately, the Court passed an order directing the authorities concerned to grant him permission to meet Sharmila according to Assam Jail Manual which is also applicable to Manipur, Prabhagaran said.
He met Irom Chanu Sharmila at JNIMS yesterday through the order of Manipur High Court.
The journalist further appealed to the authorities concerned to follow the Jail Manual and avoid unnecessary restriction on meeting the Iron Lady.
