State Govt has policy for drinking water supply: Hemochandra

PHE Minister I Hemochandra has said that the State government has a policy for supplying drinking water to the public.
He was responding to a query raised by MLA Shyamkumar regarding shortage of drinking water supply in the State during the question hour of the ongoing 5th Session of Manipur Legislative Assembly today.
Minister Hemochandra further said that various schemes under National Rural Drinking Water Programme, Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources, Special Plan Assistance, Special Development Fund, NEC Projects, Imphal Water Supply and Other Towns, Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Town and others would be implemented to address the shortage of drinking water supply in the State.
Replying to a question raised by MLA P Brojen, Minister Hemochandra said that the Tekcham Water Supply Scheme has got power connection, but it does not receive power at the moment due to disconnection of the HT Line at Tekcham Maning Leikai.
Diesel pumps are currently used instead of the electric pumps to supply water to the public, he noted.
Answering to MLA Ng Bijoy's query regarding the death of two labourers while cleaning sewerage manholes at North AOC, Hemochandra said that the Department has extended all possible assistances to the family members of the deceased, and would take up proper safety measures as per Sewerage Manuals in the future.
Replying to a query raised by MLA Kh Joykishan, the PHE Minister said that a new water supply scheme is being constructed at Lalambung, but the target for completing the scheme as per the Detailed Project Report is December 2012 .
