Imphal, August 06 2009:
Working Committee of the Apunba Lup (WCAL) has reiterated its stand on launching various intensive forms of agitation until its demands are fulfilled and also strongly condemned the statement of the Chief Minister regarding the Khwairamband firing incident of July 23 .
A statement issued by the WCAL today stated that the government has rendered the six policemen including an SI who were placed under suspension after Tehelka exposed the truth as scapegoats.
The statement questioned why the government is shielding higher rank police officers and why they should not be punished.
Pointing out that the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister has resigned after he was accused of involving in a rape case and several prominent ministers of India resigned after charge of involvement in some cases, the statement observed that Manipur CM has tried to retain his seat due to his brazenness.
Questioning why the CM was misleading the people and why he had brought the case of Mizoram in the Assembly, the statement added the arresting Apunba Lup leaders will not be the solution.
It observed that the CM has the biggest stake in bringing gun culture in the state.
It added there is no need to cover up dirty linen instead of resigning from the post while recalling the deracination of several leaders from their posts.
"Apunba Lup did not recognise curfew," the statement asserted while also stating that there is no need to institute any kind of inquiry.
It will also be wrong to assume that the agitations will die down with the suspension of some policemen.
It posed a query as to why the CM is shielding police commandos who are highly professional in vying public's money.
The Apunba Lup has clearly identified who are against it and against the interest of the people, it stated.
The Apunba Lup is also doubtful about the sincerity of the CM in materialising the promises he has made.
The statement also questioned whether the CM had gagged the mouth of the Manipur media for denying to have said that 'there is no other alternative but to kill the militants.' 'Why the government is not taking up action against the media for exaggerating the CM's statement, in case he denied having made the statement?' the statement asked.
It also charged that the CM has become a CM who speaks irrationally while asking how far the statement of the CM, who said the government is working in accordance with the rule of law, is true.
Won't it be a double-shame if the proceedings of the Assembly recorded by DIPR if seen again?, it asked.
The WCAL statement also asserted that the Apunba Lup will take out other agitations by defying the curfew.
It also appealed the people to extend support.
The Lup also welcomed the solidarity extended by various hill-based organisations.
The despicable activities of the security have prompted to raise opposition for the deployment of IRB and commandos in the hill areas.
It also informed that torch rally will be held tomorrow by defying curfew while also appealing the people to come out and join.
