One more private school was set on fire in Manipur last night allegedly defying the class boycott stir of three students' bodies after a gap of some days since the burning down of a private school at Khongjom in Thoubal district.
Police suspected that supporters three students' bodies spearheading the class boycott stir set on fire the Ganga Academy, a private institution at Sugnu Awang Leikai under Sugnu police station of Thoubal district, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh's home district.
Computer and most of the class rooms of the school which normal classes was started around a week back were totally gutted in the arson that took place at about 7 pm in response to the appeals made by the government and guardians' bodies.
Police suspected arsonists doused with petrol.
As many as seven schools including two private schools had so far torched since the launching of the class boycott stir around four month back from September 9.Most of the burned down school located in Thoubal district.
Conduct of classes in most of the four valley districts had been paralyzed since the three students' bodies, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) and Kangleipak Students' Association launched the class boycott stir extending support to the agitations launching by the Apunba Lup, an apex body of civil organizations, clubs and Meira Painbis (Women torch bearer groups) demanding resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi among others.
The arson comes up after two days of failed second round talks between the agitating groups and government represented by three senor cabinet ministers and an MLA held on last Monday.
Apunba Lup while admitting holding the failed talk has put down their 13-point slightly modified demands yesterday to the government.
