Sugnu observes bandh

Imphal, March 01 2011:
A total bandh was observed today at Sugnu Bazar in protest against the death of Athokpam Angousana soon after he was released by the Thoubal police commandos after custody for a night.
Meanwhile, the dead body of Angousana is still lying at RIMS morgue as family with the support of the JAC refuse to accept the body pressing the state government to fulfill their demands.
Their demands include payment of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the victim as compensation, a government to a family member and termination of police commandos involved in the case from their service.
The bandh at Sugnu Bazar was effective from 6.30 am today and went on till 12 noon.
A sit-in protest cum public meeting was also staged at Sugnu Awang Khongnangkhong during the bandh hour which decided to continue pressing to fulfill JAC's demands to the government.
The meeting further decided to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister tomorrow.
