Imphal, May 28 2009:
A Self Help Training cum Production Centre for carpets and shawls for the HIV/AIDS positive women was established by 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) at Chandel for empowering and helping them live with self respect.
A press release of the PRO, IG AR (South) stated that Training cum Production Centre consists of ten hand weaving machines for shawls and four carpet weaving machines.
All the trainees are being provided the raw material and training by the battalion after which they will be allowed to take the finished product for selling in the market.
All the profit will be retained by the trainees.
Inauguration ceremony was attended by a number of representatives from NGOs.
Mrs JV Shumnong, the chairperson of Grace Self help group expressed her gratitude for this noble project and stated that such welfare measures organised by the Assam Rifles for affected women will go a long way in giving them a dignified life and earn them the respect in society which they so much desire.
In another press release, 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) has provided administrative assistance and conducted Medical camp at Kwatha Khunou village of Chandel district as a part of 29 Assam Rifles "Help to the Needy" programme.
This gesture of Assam Rifles was well appreciated by one and all in the area.
