This festival is usually celebrated in accordance with the Meetei lunar calendar.
It falls on the second new moon day of Hiyangei, usually in November.
Reflecting the importance of daughters in the lives of their parents, the festival of Ningol Chakouba offers the married girls with an occasion to renew their ties with their family and childhood friends.

Many civil organisations organised grand feasts by inviting women of different communities specially widows and weaker section of the society who have none to invite them for the feast.
The Handicapped Development Foundation celebrated the festival by inviting persons with disabilities at Ideal Club Complex, Tera Bazar.
The foundation celebrated the festival as part of One-month Long Barrier Free Poster Campaign.
MLA Sapam Keba and many other dignitaries took part in the celebration.
Around 150 persons with disabilities took part in the celebration.
They were offered gifts by the organizers and dignitaries present.
