JDDC begins talk with govt, proposed indefinite bandh stands

The Jiribam District Demand the District Demand Committee (JDDC) would go ahead with proposed indefinite total bandh along National Highway- 37 and picketing of government offices and educational institutions in Jiribam sub-division as no agreement has been arrived at so far.
M Maipaksana, Convenor of JDDC informed media persons after a round of talks with the government.
A delegation of Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) held talks with the government over its demand for up gradation of Jiribam sub-division of Imphal East district to a full-fledged revenue district.
The talk will continue again at 3.30 pm on November 9.In the talk which took place in the office chamber of the Chief Minister at around 5 pm today, the JDDC delegation was accompanied by representatives of various civil organizations.
Talking to mediapersons while coming out after the talk, Convenor of JDDC M Maipaksana informed that the government has been pressed for granting district status to Jiribam before announcement of code of conduct of the upcoming Assembly election.
The delegation also made it clear that there would be no problem over declaration of the Jiribam as a full-fledged revenue district as there is no conflict over its boundary.
After giving a patient hearing, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh assured that necessary steps for up gradation of Jiribam sub-division to a revenue district would be taken up after receiving the report of the District Re-organisation Committee, Maipaksana disclosed.
No definite decision had been taken in the meeting today and the talk would continue at 3.30 pm tomorrow.
